Former DeepMind scientist Cao Yuan: It will still take at least another twenty to thirty years for AI to win the Nobel Prize independently

According to CoinMeta, former senior research scientist Google DeepMind, co-founder of Unreasonable Labs and also CEO Cao Yuan, stated that AI is entering a period of explosive growth in the scientific field. However, it will still take at least another twenty to thirty years to truly make independent scientific discoveries on the level of Nobel Prizes. He believes that the current biggest bottleneck lies in verification; experiments in the fields of biology, materials science, and physics are often costly and time-consuming, making it difficult to iterate and make mistakes as quickly as with programming agents. In addition, Cao Yuan pointed out that although existing models can search for answers within existing knowledge, they have not yet been able to abstract new mathematical objects and theories in the same way that top scientists do, which he refers to as the "last mile" in this process.
