According to CoinMeta, the major U.S. stock market indices closed lower today, with the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Index leading the decline. As oil prices rose and Treasury yields increased, investor sentiment was subdued, and selling pressure accelerated in the afternoon. Crude oil prices rose by more than 2% due to concerns regarding the Strait of Hormuz and the stalled negotiations between the United States and Iran, which brought supply risks back into focus. S&P Energy components rose by 0.87%, being the only S&P component to gain on the day. The communications services and consumer goods sectors declined by 1.47% and 1.46% respectively. Chip and artificial intelligence stocks performed exceptionally well, rising by 8.88% after last Thursday's Investor Day and have accumulated a gain of 35% since then. The yield on 10-year Treasuries rose to 4.72%, and the yield on 30-year Treasuries rose to 5.31%, both reaching their highest levels since June 2007. The market is focused on the upcoming retail earnings reports, with major companies such as Home Depot, Walmart, Target, and Lowe releasing their financial results.
