U.S. 30-year Treasury yield hits 19-year high, may rise further

According to CoinMeta, the yield on 30-year U.S. Treasury bonds has soared to its highest level in nearly 20 years, rising by more than 4 basis points on Monday to reach 5.311%. Some strategists believe that the selling of long-term Treasuries may intensify further. Although recent U.S. economic data would typically lead to a decline in yields, the market still expects long-term yields to rise to 5.60%-5.70%. Meanwhile, foreign holdings of Treasuries decreased in June, with major holders including the United Kingdom, China, and Japan. Analysts point out that the continuous rise in yields in other major developed markets around the world may lead to investors demanding higher returns on U.S. Treasuries.
