According to CoinMeta, Stripe has finalized an agreement to acquire OpenRouter for over $7 billion, with the final amount still subject to adjustment. OpenRouter is a AI model aggregation platform that allows users to call, compare, and switch between hundreds of models through a set of API. In May of this year, when OpenRouter raised funds, its valuation was around $1.3 billion, and the acquisition price has now risen to 5.4 times that amount. If the transaction is completed for over $8 billion, the combined value of the shares held by venture capital firms a16z and Menlo Ventures will be close to $2 billion. a16z began investing in OpenRouter last year from the seed round, spending only about $20 million in total, and now holds more than 17% of the shares. Based on an acquisition price of $8 billion, this portion of the shares is worth nearly $1.5 billion, representing a growth of about 75 times in less than two years. Menlo Ventures also holds more than 6% of the shares, with a cumulative investment of less than $50 million, and now the value of these shares exceeds $500 million, representing a minimum increase of 10 times.
