SEC Proposes New Regulations, Focusing on Regulatory Details for Cryptocurrencies
2026-08-19 06:46:03
According to CoinMeta, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has recently proposed new regulations for crypto assets, aiming to provide specific guidance for those classified as securities. Under the proposal, eligible crypto startups could obtain customized exemptions from the Securities Act of 1933 and have the opportunity to be reclassified as non-securities. Some argue that if investors purchase crypto tokens with the expectation of earning returns from the efforts of a central team, then these tokens should be considered securities. The proposal also sets criteria for decentralization so that these tokens may be reclassified as non-securities. The SEC plans to accept public comments over the next 60 days, with a related meeting scheduled for tomorrow, which may further clarify the regulatory framework for crypto assets.
