Morgan Stanley: Internet sector valuation is undervalued, the debate over the return on capital expenditure of AI remains unresolved
2026-08-19 10:11:34
According to CoinMeta, and as reported by an early issuer of in, Morgan Stanley pointed out in its Internet Weekly report on August 18 that the internet sector fell by 1% last week, with Amazon and Google declining by 4% and 2% respectively. The valuations of Amazon, Google, and Meta are 7% to 14% below the five-year average, while the overall internet sector is 7% below the five-year average in NTM EV / EBITDA. However, NTM EV / Sales are 19% above the average. If equity incentives are considered as cash expenditures, the medians of the digital media, e-commerce, and travel sectors would rise by approximately 36%, 30%, and 44% respectively. Morgan Stanley believes that AI ROIC debates are the core focus of the market, and since there is no consensus on buying at the current low valuations, the internet sector is likely to remain within a range of fluctuations.
