Lagarde: Europe cannot miss the artificial intelligence revolution
2026-08-19 15:52:49
According to CoinMeta, Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, warned during a speech at the headquarters of the World Economic Forum in Geneva that as artificial intelligence reshapes the global economy, Europe must not fall behind. She stated that there are signs indicating that European companies are increasing their investment in this technology, and cited survey data showing that companies in the eurozone will allocate about 9% of their total investments to artificial intelligence this year. Lagarde pointed out that Europe largely missed out on the first wave of the digital revolution, with the commercial benefits brought about by the widespread adoption of information and communication technologies disproportionately flowing to other regions, emphasizing that the same mistake cannot be repeated in the context of artificial intelligence—the second wave of the digital revolution.
