Robinhood CEO: Calling on the United States to Approve Tokenized Stocks
2026-08-19 21:49:49
According to CoinMeta, Vlad Tenev, CEO of Robinhood Markets (Nasdaq: $HOOD), is calling on U.S. regulators to approve tokenized stocks. He stated on social media that the United States faces the risk of handing over the next generation of financial market infrastructure to overseas competitors. Tenev pointed out that the global financial system is in the early stages of a "tokenization supercycle," which has the potential to reshape traditional finance. Robinhood has already launched tokenized U.S. stocks in over 120 countries and has currently tokenized more than 190 U.S. stocks. Tokenized stocks are backed 1:1 by the underlying stocks, but holders do not directly own these stocks, a distinction that concerns U.S. regulators. Tenev believes that tokenization can solve two long-standing problems in traditional markets: limited trading hours and slow asset transfers. He said that blockchain infrastructure can make round-the-clock trading commonplace and speed up the transfer process between brokers.
