SWIFT Completes First Blockchain Cross-Border Transaction with HSBC and Standard Chartered
2026-08-20 13:36:44
According to CoinMeta, SWIFT, HSBC, and Standard Chartered completed the first cross-border transaction based on the SWIFT blockchain on August 19, 2026. This transaction connected two independently operated tokenized deposit systems; HSBC recorded the corresponding obligations through its tokenized deposit service, while Standard Chartered used its own tokenized deposit infrastructure. The specific amount of the transaction, currency, customers, and place of origin were not disclosed, nor did the parties announce a commercial launch date. SWIFT indicates that this blockchain ledger can maintain existing standards in terms of compliance, credit, and operational control, and is planned to be available around the clock to allow banks to process tokenized deposit instructions outside of normal payment hours.
