Elon Musk's X explores using stablecoins as a payment method for creators; USDC is under consideration
2026-08-20 19:54:49
According to CoinMeta, Musk's X is exploring the use of stablecoins for paying creators' royalties and rewards, with USDC being considered one of the options. This move will change the way X distributes rewards to creators around the world and bring crypto payments closer to Musk's broader plan to turn X into a “versatile” application. X is considering using stablecoins to pay influencers and content creators for their royalties and rewards, replacing its existing ad-based reward model. Stablecoins will make these payments more convenient, especially for creators living outside of the United States. The use of stablecoins will allow X to make smaller cross-border payments more quickly, without relying entirely on local banking systems. Despite increasing discussions about which stablecoin Musk will choose for payments, X has not yet officially announced a creator payment system based on USDC.
