US Treasury expands repurchases, which may impact the Federal Reserve's monetary policy

According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Reuters, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bennett announced on Wednesday that he would double the scale of repurchases of U.S. Treasury bonds with maturities between 10 and 30 years to $4 billion per purchase. This decision could potentially affect the Federal Reserve's monetary policy. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell has pledged to achieve price stability, but Bennett's decision may complicate this effort. On Wednesday, the U.S. sovereign debt reached a record high of $40 trillion. Although the Treasury Department's repurchase program may be further expanded, Powell stated that the market should be the determinant of interest rates, not the Federal Reserve.
