Goldman Sachs analyst: Commodity markets benefit from scarcity and financial repression
2026-08-21 09:43:38
According to CoinMeta, Goldman Sachs analyst Jeffrey Currie pointed out that the commodity market is benefiting from the dual effects of physical scarcity driving up prices and financial repression keeping yields low. He paid particular attention to the diesel market, noting that the diesel cracking price broke through $100 per barrel for the first time this week, reaching $102.20, reflecting the global shortage of refining capacity. Currie believes that the current environment of multiple supply shocks is different from the situation with a single commodity, and gold is seen as a direct hedge against devaluation. He also mentioned that recently, the U.S. Treasury Department decided to double its long-term treasury bond repurchase operations, and the market reacted quickly, with gold rising by 4% to $4,510 and silver rising by nearly 5%.
