The Sandbox: Vulnerability in cross-chain bridge discovered and controlled, with an impact of less than 0.01%
2026-08-22 15:51:39
According to CoinMeta, The Sandbox indicates that the team has discovered and fully controlled a cross-chain bridge vulnerability on Base and BNB Smart Chain (BSC) caused by sand. Previously, attackers minted sand on these two chains without any reserve support, affecting less than 0.01% of the total supply of sand. Currently, the bidirectional cross-chain functionality on Base and BSC has been disabled, and related sand cannot be transferred or redeemed. The Sandbox warns users not to buy, sell, or trade sand on these two chains, and emphasizes that sand on Ethereum and Polygon has not been affected, and user wallets have not been compromised. The Ethereum assets locked up to support all cross-chain sand remain intact. The team is working on a compensation plan for eligible users in the affected liquidity pools based on snapshots from before the incident and will subsequently release a complete incident report and technical review.
