Gold price rises to its highest level since May 15

According to CoinMeta, the price of gold rose by $65 to reach $4,668, hitting a high since May 17th, and has increased by more than $600 since the beginning of this month. Factors driving the demand for gold include the United States effectively abandoning its "strong dollar" policy, intervening in the Japanese yen, and the Treasury Department's attempts to intervene in the bond market to lower yields. Although yields rebounded last week due to operational distortions, today the 10-year yield fell by 3.8 basis points to 4.70%. In addition, the Treasury Department has threatened allies considering selling U.S. Treasurys, with rumors that Japan is close to selling bonds to cover the costs of such interventions, while Saudi Arabia has also threatened to sell U.S. dollar bonds if the United States takes further measures against Iran. The market demand for gold reflects the possibility that central banks are increasing their holdings of gold.
