Cosmos EVM Chain Required to Be Suspended Due to Security Incident

According to CoinMeta, on August 25th, Cosmos Labs called on the affected Cosmos EVM chain validators to pause their chains in response to a security incident that had impacted multiple networks. The company did not confirm the potential vulnerabilities, the affected chains, or the total losses in its initial statement. Cosmos EVM is a shared software stack that allows Cosmos SDK chains to execute Ethereum-compatible smart contracts. This incident affected users of the Cosmos EVM module, and the security and engineering teams of Cosmos Labs are responding actively. Kiichain reported that attackers withdrew 148,326,583.15 KII from wallets on August 22nd; the attack was related to a vulnerability in the Cosmos EVM module. Similar attack incidents were also reported by Tac and Mantra. Cosmos Labs has not yet released a calculation of total losses or confirmed whether the same attacker controlled all related addresses.
