According to CoinMeta, Counterpoint Research predicts that global shipments of flat-panel displays ( FPD ) will decline by 4.7% in 2026 year-on-year. A shortage of storage has led to a sharp rise in storage prices, and this cost has been passed on to the prices of end devices, suppressing demand in the main application areas of FPD, especially in smartphones and tablets. Research director Brien stated that the high prices of memory chips have caused a rise in the prices of a range of electronic products, which in turn has led to a decrease in demand, particularly in the mid-to-low-end segments of the smartphone and PC markets. Brand manufacturers are unable to set as aggressive prices as they did in previous years, and consumers are choosing to postpone their purchases or turn to the second-hand market. Shipments of mobile phone and tablet displays are expected to decline by 9.5% in 2026. In the IT sector, strong shipments in the first half of the year mean that the decline in 2026 will be smaller, but the downward trend will continue into 2027.
