Iranian War Intensifies Cost Pressures; American "Granary" Farmers Face the Most Severe Crisis in 40 Years

According to CoinMeta, and as reported by the Financial Times, farmers in the U.S. Corn Belt say they are facing the most severe crisis in 40 years. After Trump launched a war against Iran, the costs of diesel and fertilizers soared, pushing grain growers to the brink of survival. A recent study by the National Farmers Union of America shows that without government assistance, farmers growing nine major crops, including corn, will suffer a total loss of $31 billion this year and $32 billion in 2027. Economists predict that corn growers will lose $131 per acre this year, with losses expected to increase to $167 in 2027. Soybean growers will lose $80 per acre this year and $138 next year. 2027 will mark the sixth consecutive year of negative returns for most of the major field crops in the United States. The intensifying pressure is the latest sign of the impact on the American heartland six months into the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. As key mid-term elections approach, these economic pressures are also affecting the sentiment of voters in agricultural states across the U.S.
