According to CoinMeta, after the market turmoil in July, retail investors in South Korea withdrew from leveraged products related to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. In August, South Korean investors pulled out nearly $1 billion from leveraged chip products, marking the first monthly outflow since their introduction at the end of May, indicating a sharp reversal in this market. Approximately $601 million flowed out of products related to SK Hynix in August, while funds related to Samsung suffered a loss of $381 million, for a total withdrawal of about $982 million. Such products are designed to amplify the daily fluctuations of their underlying stocks, both increasing gains and losses. The popularity of these products surged before the severe correction in July, amid the high enthusiasm for artificial intelligence and memory chip stocks. The South Korean Financial Services Commission also tightened the trading regulations for these products, requiring new investors to maintain at least 30 million Korean won in cash in single-stock leveraged products and to complete extended education and simulated trading.
