According to CoinMeta, as reported by Nikkei News, approximately 40 Japanese banks have launched a pilot experiment for digital currency transfers between each other. This project is led by GMO Aozora Net Bank and jointly undertaken by Abeam Consulting under NEC and fintech company DCP. They use "tokenized deposits" on blockchain for transfers with the goal of creating a 24/7, low-cost instant settlement infrastructure. The experiment is part of a support project for the Financial Services Agency of Japan's "Fintech Pilot Experiment Hub." Participants include about 40 institutions such as Resona banks, the Central Cooperative Bank of Commerce and Industry, and Yokohama Bank. DCP plans to put this service into practical use in fiscal year 2027.
