2026-08-26 12:57:38
According to CoinMeta, a restaurant on the Bitcoin Beach in El Salvador (El Zonte) received its first Bitcoin payment of the month on August 23. Bitcoin core developer Jon Atack stated that restaurant staff told him that Bitcoin payments used to be common, but now they are almost “non-existent.” Atack, who has been living in El Salvador since 2022, reports experiences that are consistent with earlier national surveys indicating a decline in the proportion of consumers using Bitcoin. According to a survey by Universidad Centroamericana, only 8.1% of Salvadorans used Bitcoin for purchases in 2024, compared to 25.7% in 2021.
