PR War in ChatGPT: Israel Funds "Think Tanks" to Massively Copy Quotes from AI
2026-08-26 14:28:53
According to CoinMeta, in the PR battle that has reached a critical stage, the Israeli government-funded entities Hanover Institute, for, and Public Policy have been exposed for mass-producing research reports with the aim of appearing in search results for ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other related topics. Since August 6th, these websites have published over 100 articles on Palestinian-related issues without any author attribution; the titles of these articles directly pose questions that users would ask. Hanover also provides llms.txt, which is organized into an index for easier machine reading. During the early stages of testing, ChatGPT and Perplexity frequently cited Hanover. Media and Responsible Statecraft used AI detectors to randomly check articles, and most were determined to be generated by AI. A public relations company, Piro, sells AI Story Optimization services that analyze which pages can influence model responses and create content that is more likely to be cited by LLM. Public documents show that Piro conducted dissemination projects for Israel's government advertising agency LAPAM through Havas Media, with a total payment of one million US dollars.
