According to CoinMeta, the latest released U.S. PCE price index shows that the PCE inflation rate is 3.7%, which is the same as in June. Excluding the more volatile food and energy categories, the core PCE inflation rate is 3.3%, also remaining unchanged from June. This report utilizes other previously published inflation data, so the PCE figures are generally in line with investors' expectations. As the Federal Reserve faces inflation issues, this report further clarifies the inflation situation. Federal Reserve Chairman Powell will deliver an important speech on Friday. U.S. CPI data brought good news in July: the core CPI inflation rate dropped to a relatively moderate 2.5%. However, since the PCE inflation rate has different weights for various expenditure categories, its performance has been noticeably stronger. Currently, there is still much uncertainty regarding how Powell views the inflation challenge he has taken on. He has not included his economic forecasts in the "dot plot" published quarterly, which summarizes Federal Reserve officials' predictions for the economy and interest rates. Moreover, he has not indicated whether he might support interest rate hikes at future meetings, a matter that has led to disagreements among Federal Reserve officials.
