According to CoinMeta, South Korean cryptocurrency exchange bithumb won the first-instance lawsuit in a claim regarding a “misissued Bitcoin” incident. The court ruled that users who sold the misissued Bitcoins were required to return approximately 194 million Korean won, which is about $145,000. In February of this year, bithumb mistakenly distributed 620,000 Bitcoins as part of an event reward, which was worth about $5 billion at the time. bithumb subsequently initiated a recovery process and reported in March that 99% of the misissued Bitcoins had been recovered. This ruling is the first of four lawsuits bithumb has filed against users who did not return the Bitcoins. The basis for the court's ruling and whether the defendants will appeal have not yet been disclosed.
