Kansas City Fed's Schmidt: Inflation remains stubborn and persistent, policy interest rates are not limited
2026-08-27 20:27:54
According to CoinMeta, Jeffrey Schmidt, the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, stated in an interview on Thursday that inflation is still too high, although he did not call for interest rate hikes. At the central bank's annual symposium, Schmidt pointed out that inflation shows resilience, describing it as "still stubborn and persistent." He mentioned that core prices (excluding food and energy) have risen by 3.3% year-on-year, far exceeding the Federal Reserve's target of 2%. Schmidt said that the current policy interest rate target of the Fed is 3.5%-3.75%, and it is not yet clear whether this is restrictive. He added that adjusting interest rates would indeed change market behavior at a macro level. Although Schmidt is not voting this year, he can still express his views at the meeting.
