According to CoinMeta, a senior official from the U.S. Department of Defense stated that as Washington continues to review the deployment of troops in Europe and America, the United States hopes to “advance and accelerate” the transfer of most conventional defense responsibilities to Europe itself. Colin Korb, the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, arrived in Brussels on Thursday to hold talks with NATO allies, informing them of the progress of the six-month review. It is expected that this review will be completed by the end of this year and will lead to significant changes in the scale of U.S. military deployments in Europe. As part of this process, U.S. allies were sent a questionnaire with a deadline of this Friday. The questionnaire asks whether countries “publicly support” Trump’s foreign policy, whether they restrict the use of U.S. military bases, and whether they purchase from U.S. defense contractors, among other things. Korb said, “We want to hear directly from our allies and understand their views in writing.” This visit is related to this questionnaire, which surprised the governments of many European countries earlier this summer.
