Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stated that any agreement with the United States regarding the Strait of Hormuz would include an end to the wars in Lebanon, Gaza, and Syria. He emphasized that the conflict in the Gaza Strip must come to an end and called for Israel to withdraw from Lebanon. Rezaei pointed out that the Strait of Hormuz cannot be separated from the broader regional conflicts, stressing that the United States must “prove its seriousness” in fulfilling these commitments. However, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration is not interested in renewing the memorandum of understanding reached with Iran in June; President Trump wants to see if its strategy of imposing economic pressure on Iran is effective. On Monday, the United States announced “Day D” economic measures against Tehran, threatening countries that conduct business with Iran. Rezaei said that Iran currently allows ships to pass through a “temporary and limited” corridor in the Strait of Hormuz, and future maritime traffic will depend on progress in understanding with Washington.
