According to CoinMeta, British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak is considering imposing a windfall tax on banks and oil companies in his first budget. Treasury officials are discussing these two policies in an attempt to find ways to fill a £4.7 billion gap in public finances while avoiding a direct increase in personal taxes. Sunak hopes that next month's budget will be kept low-key and to ensure that the inevitable tax increases are much lower than those implemented by his predecessor, Philip Hammond.
