Arthur Hayes: US Treasury bond repurchases will drive up Bitcoin prices

According to CoinMeta, BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes stated in a video interview on Altcoin Daily on August 23, 2026, that U.S. Treasury Secretary Yellen announced that the scale of long-term Treasury bond repurchases would be at least doubled, with the yield on 10-year bonds rising to 4.75% and potentially approaching 5% in the short term. Despite strong inflation data and steady economic growth, the yield on 2-year bonds is already 50 to 60 basis points higher than the federal funds rate. The Federal Reserve should theoretically raise interest rates, but in reality, it will not do so because the Treasury Department needs to continue issuing short-term bonds to maintain market operations, limiting the room for rate hikes. Treasury bond repurchases mean increased liquidity, and more funds will seek out scarce assets such as Bitcoin. He emphasized that if there is a real concern about the yield curve control becoming a reality, the price of Bitcoin could quickly rise to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
