According to CoinMeta, the U.S. government will hold a 35% stake in a private Venezuelan oil company, shifting its role from intermediary to investor. This agreement will grant the United States direct financial interests in this private company, which will be awarded a century-long mining rights to some of the world's largest proven oil reserves. The company is led by Venezuelan businessman Alejandro Betancourt and will have the opportunity to develop 17 oil fields that are said to contain 65 billion barrels of crude oil, which is one-fifth of the country's total reserves. The U.S. plans to hold a 35% passive stake in Betancourt's "North American Blue Energy Partners Company" and will also obtain the right to purchase 20% of its production at cost price.
