Forbes: Europe Promotes Dual Development of Digital Euro and Private Euro Stablecoins
2026-08-30 13:22:07
According to CoinMeta, as reported by Forbes, Europe is building a digital currency system that complies with regulatory and privacy standards, creating a parallel path for the digital euro and private euro stablecoins. Piero Cipollone, a member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank, stated that the digital euro will provide a high level of privacy, with offline payments visible only to the payer and the recipient, while in online transactions, the euro system will not be able to identify individuals. Revolut has already launched EURR on Ethereum to some users in Denmark, Poland, and Portugal; this token is issued by Bridge Building under Stripe. The digital euro is a public currency issued by the central bank, whereas EURR is a privately issued on-chain stablecoin. The two compete in terms of privacy, usability, regulatory clarity, and economic value.
