According to CoinMeta, Russia's largest bank Sberbank announced plans to accept Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and USDT as collateral for loans. However, the use of Ethereum and USDT still requires approval from the Russian Central Bank. Russia's new crypto market framework is set to take effect on September 1st. The vice chairman of Sberbank, Anatoly Popov, stated that the bank plans to accept not only Bitcoin but also Ethereum and stablecoins Tether as collateral. Nevertheless, customers cannot immediately use these three assets as collateral. Popov mentioned that the use of Sberbank and ETH will be gradually increased once the Russian Central Bank permits their public circulation. The bank plans to gradually expand the assets that can be used as collateral for loans after the new crypto rules come into effect. Sberbank is not starting from scratch; the bank conducted tests on crypto mortgage loans with the Russian mining company Intelion Data in December 2025. This expansion will allow the same basic concept to cover Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT, subject to the regulations of the regulatory authorities.
