Trump urges FCC to investigate media polls and punish the host of NBC

According to CoinMeta, U.S. President Donald Trump further intensified his criticism of the media on Sunday, urging the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to investigate the polls used by news outlets and to punish a well-known television news host. Trump has long had a strained relationship with journalists and news organizations that publish reports he dislikes, especially those concerning his poll numbers. Recent surveys show that, with the unpopular Iran war continuing and gasoline prices remaining high, Trump’s current support rate is lower than at any point during his two terms in office. Trump is increasingly using his hostility towards the media to seek action from the FCC, which is responsible for regulating broadcasting licenses. On Sunday, Trump complained that action must be taken against the “false polls” used by the media. He posted on social media, exclaiming, “It’s time for the FCC to get involved!” Polls are often funded by television stations or news organizations, but the actual surveys are conducted by universities or polling companies, and the FCC has no authority to regulate these institutions. The FCC also has no authority to regulate cable television stations or print media. Trump also criticized CNN host Kristen Welker for her mixed reviews of his endorsement results in this year’s Republican primary elections. Speaking about Welker’s reporting, Trump said, “Due to this deliberate distortion of facts, she will be reported to the FCC to face condemnation or punishment.”
