Honda and Nissan Close to Reaching a Software Alliance Agreement
2026-08-31 02:40:35
According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Reuters, Honda Motor Company ( NYSE : HMC ) and Nissan Motor Company may reach an agreement on August 29 to jointly develop vehicle operating systems and in-vehicle computers. This collaboration will apply to new models launched in 2029 and thereafter, marking a clear sign of renewed cooperation between these two Japanese automakers one year after the breakdown of their $6 billion merger negotiations. Although Honda has stated that it is discussing "potential areas of cooperation" with Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors, it emphasizes that no final agreement has been reached yet. A Nissan spokesperson said that the company is exploring "various possibilities" and will share details once confirmed. Nissan's CEO, Ivan Espinosa, stated earlier this month that software cooperation negotiations with Honda are underway.
