According to CoinMeta, Wu said that the Solana core client development team Anza has indicated that Solana is gradually removing floating-point operations from the core protocol in order to reduce consensus discrepancies or network activity risks caused by rounding differences among different hardware, validator clients, and compilers. SIMD-0391 was activated on the mainnet Beta Epoch on October 26th, and the floating-point operations related to staking preheating and cooling logic in Stake Program and validator clients were changed to fixed-point operations. SIMD-0607 has currently been proposed and is under review; there are plans to further remove floating-point operations from the inflation rewards and rent calculation paths during runtime. Other floating-point operations with lower priorities will also be gradually migrated to fixed-point operations in the future.
