According to CoinMeta, on August 31st, the US dollar (USD) weakened due to the hawkish remarks by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell (Kevin Warsh) at Jackson Hole, which caused market expectations for a rate hike in September to rise to 65%. The dollar declined against major currencies, with a drop of 0.31% against the Canadian dollar (CAD) and 0.27% against the euro (EUR). Treasury Secretary Scott Bennett (Scott Bessent) pointed out that the Federal Reserve generally does not raise interest rates due to supply shocks, which could provide Powell with a reason to delay tightening policies. Although Bennett downplayed concerns about rising US Treasury yields, these yields still increased, especially the long-term ones. Overall, despite the weakening dollar and rising oil prices, the stock market performed relatively weakly.
