According to CoinMeta, the prediction market platform Kalshi imposed the platform’s first lifetime trading ban on former U.S. Congressman George Santos and imposed a fine of over $70,000. Kalshi accused Santos of conducting large-scale transactions in contracts related to whether they would attend Trump’s State of the Union address, and of influencing contract prices by publicly releasing false or misleading information about their attendance. As a result, Santos profited approximately $18,000 by betting that they would not attend. Kalshi stated that Santos was permanently banned for not cooperating with the investigation. During the same period, the platform also handled four other law enforcement cases; the users involved in those cases were only temporarily banned from trading after cooperating with the investigation.
