Bitcoin sees kimchi premium reappear in the Korean market

According to CoinMeta, Bitcoin has seen a “kimchi premium” re-emerge in the South Korean market. On Tuesday, the Bitcoin price in Korean won ($Upbit) was about 1% higher than the Bitcoin price in US dollars ($Binance), and this premium has persisted for about a week, which is the longest period since early May. Previously, Bitcoin was at a discount for most of the summer in South Korea, with a discount of up to 3.1% in early June and an average discount of about 0.25% in August. Analysts point out that the return of the kimchi premium indicates that retail investors’ risk appetite in South Korea has improved to some extent. However, this is not yet accompanied by a significant increase in spot trading volume; it may more likely reflect a weakening selling pressure in the South Korean market, rather than a new large-scale FOMO.
