Bitcoin mining power approaches 1 ZH /s; AI data centers squeeze miners' profits
2026-09-01 21:27:05
According to CoinMeta, the computing power of the Bitcoin network is on the rise, approaching a historical high of 1 ZH hashes per second. This milestone brings pressure to miners, who are facing an increasingly challenging economic environment and the growing attractiveness of artificial intelligence infrastructure. On August 31st, the Bitcoin network's computing power exceeded 1.03 ZH hashes per second, and on September 1st, it was estimated to be around 974 EH hashes per second. The increase in computing power enhances the security of Bitcoin, but it also intensifies competition among miners. Recent data shows that Bitcoin's daily mining revenue is about $39 per PH hash, putting miners under greater economic pressure. MARA's mining computing power increased by 22% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, reaching 70.3 EH hashes per second, but quarterly revenue decreased by 27% to $174.9 million. The company mined 2,422 Bitcoins during this quarter, with reported energy costs of approximately $38,690 per Bitcoin. As more computing power joins the network, Bitcoin's difficulty mechanism will also be adjusted upwards to maintain a block production rate of once every 10 minutes.
