Core DAO plans for an emergency hard fork, validators to receive excess CORE rewards
2026-09-02 12:31:09
According to CoinMeta, Core DAO announced the coordinated implementation of an emergency hard fork due to validators obtaining CORE rewards that exceeded the blockchain's predetermined issuance volume. Core DAO stated that the situation is under control, and malicious validators are no longer able to receive these excess rewards; the upgrade will not roll back the network or cancel confirmed transactions. Previously, a small number of validators had accumulated rewards significantly higher than the protocol-specified issuance volume, but the incident only affected the distribution of rewards, and users' assets remain safe. Coinbase, Bithumb, Coinone, Bitget, and LBank had previously restricted CORE recharges, withdrawals, or transfers. Core DAO has not yet disclosed the exact amount of the excess CORE issued, the duration of the related activities, or whether any additional tokens have entered circulation. They also did not explain the cause of the vulnerability and indicated that they would release a technical review report.
