According to CoinMeta, Russia legalized cryptocurrencies on September 1, 2026, and launched the digital ruble on the same day. Under Federal Law 282-FZ, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT were brought under the regulatory oversight of the Russian Central Bank. The digital ruble was launched at 12 major banks across the country, and at the same time, the central bank added 2,600 cryptocurrency wallets to a blacklist for fraud. The implementation of this law marks a significant shift in Russia's approach to cryptocurrency regulation, despite the existence of contradictory provisions within the legal framework.
