Rain Contract Vulnerability Results in Users Losing Approximately $1.1 Million

According to CoinMeta, as reported by blockchain security firm Blockaid, attackers exploited outdated Rain contract on August 28 to steal approximately $1.1 million from multiple stablecoin token projects. Affected crypto projects included Avici and Tria; the total losses disclosed by these two companies exceeded $932,800, affecting 2,321 users. Blockaid stated that other projects supported by Rain were also affected, with estimated losses of around $1.1 million. The attackers did not access customers' self-managed wallets or private keys but targeted the collateral contracts holding the stablecoins deposited by users. Rain mentioned that their monitoring system detected vulnerabilities affecting “a few projects” and had upgraded all programs still running the affected versions. This incident has drawn widespread attention to contract and operational vulnerabilities. Research by Blockaid shows that losses caused by crypto security failures in the first half of 2026 amounted to about $1.1 billion.
