FED interest rate hike probabilities fluctuate; Powell keeps the decision for September open

According to CoinMeta, Federal Reserve Governor Jerome Powell stated that although inflation has cooled down, a rate hike in September is still possible if the data in August is strong. In an interview with Reuters, he pointed out that recent inflation data has shown positive progress towards the Fed's 2% inflation target. If this trend continues, he would support keeping interest rates unchanged at the policy meeting on September 15-16. Powell's stance reflects his confidence that short-term inflation pressures have eased, despite inflation remaining high on an annual basis. The three-month core inflation rate has dropped from 4.76% in February to 3.05% in July. He said that current monetary policy is only slightly tightening, which means the Fed still has room to address the risk of accelerating inflation. The market reacted quickly to this, with traders lowering their expectations for a September rate hike after Powell's speech, treasury yields fell, and the dollar weakened.
