2026-09-04 23:25:46
According to CoinMeta, Wu said that the Metropolitan Police in London released its first annual fraud report, stating that in the 2025/26 fiscal year, criminals are increasingly using AI and cryptocurrencies to carry out fraud and transfer illicit gains. The report indicates that the use of cryptocurrencies is particularly concentrated in investment scams, where victims are usually lured into transferring funds to what appear to be legitimate investment platforms, only to realize they have been deceived later on. At the same time, the report specifically mentions that fraud involving AI increased by 395% year-on-year, with the number of cases rising from 193 to 956, and the losses associated with these cases increased from 1.2 million pounds to 9.6 million pounds. The police stated that AI is being used to generate videos, clone voices, manipulate images, create fake websites, and use chatbots to enhance the credibility of the scams.
