According to CoinMeta, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FCEN) of the U.S. Treasury Department reported that approximately $13 billion in crypto scams are linked to transnational criminal organizations based in Southeast Asia. These scams primarily target U.S. residents and include types such as "pork slaughter" scams, romance scams, and crypto confidence schemes. Analysis by FCEN shows that from September 2023 to December 2025, over 33,000 reports of suspicious crypto scams identified about $12.7 billion in crypto transactions. The agency stated that crypto asset investment scams are one of the most serious fraud threats facing the United States today.
