According to CoinMeta, the Chilean exchange OrionX supported by Tether suddenly announced its closure, due to the disappearance of $7 million in customer assets from their wallets. The exchange will be permanently shut down, and withdrawals for over 100,000 users have been frozen. A forensic audit found that these funds were transferred to wallets outside of their control between 2018 and 2021, involving Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and Polygon. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the two co-founders of OrionX; both deny the allegations.
