Rootstock Co-founder: Bitcoin bridges should implement mandatory withdrawal delays to prevent losses
2026-09-11 02:02:34
According to CoinMeta, co-founder Sergio Lerner of Rootstock calls for the implementation of mandatory withdrawal delays for Bitcoin bridges to prevent losses caused by verification errors. Lerner pointed out that in unauthorized peg-out incidents, approximately 4000 BTC were withdrawn from the joint wallets on the Liquid network, and immediate settlement could have resulted in losses before a verification error occurred. He stated that if Liquid included a time-delay lock, preventing funds from being moved within a specified period, such errors would lead to controllable situations rather than a complete disaster. Lerner also mentioned that Rootstock has already implemented a delay mechanism in its two-way peg, although Bitcoin’s consensus rules do not mandate a waiting period.
