According to CoinMeta, Mexican authorities seized 300 units of GPU near a hydroelectric power station, suspecting that the location is involved in illegal crypto mining activities. Investigators are checking whether electricity is being stolen from the hydroplant for these purposes. This is the fourth similar incident discovered in the Puebla region since the beginning of 2025. Chainalysis indicates that drug cartels are increasingly using crypto mining in areas where electricity is cheap or can be stolen for money laundering purposes, according to a source from Reuters.
