Petition for a Delay in Virtual Asset Taxation in South Korea Receives 50,764 Signatures
2026-09-14 08:59:51
According to CoinMeta, and as reported by digitalasset, a petition requesting a two-year extension of the virtual asset taxation deadline has garnered 50,764 signatures, meeting the threshold required for it to be referred to the permanent committee. The petition argues that implementing virtual asset taxation could lead to a significant decline in exchange revenues, which in turn would result in reduced corporate taxes. Therefore, they are calling for a two-year postponement. Previously, in May, a petition to abolish virtual asset taxation also received over 50,000 signatures and was referred to the permanent committee. Currently, the South Korean government advocates for the normal implementation of taxation in January 2027, while the National Power Party opposes this, citing reasons such as the incomplete related infrastructure.
