Derek Chiang: Failure announced in the cooperation on Ethereum account abstraction standards
2026-09-14 22:26:07
According to CoinMeta, researcher Derek Chiang stated that the collaboration last week around account abstraction (AA) between EIP-8130 and EIP-8141 (frame transactions) failed. Ethereum L1 and Base will now proceed with different standards separately. Although both parties wish to support features such as gas, passkey, and other AA, Ethereum places more emphasis on anti-censorship, privacy, and quantum resistance, hence they tend to prioritize high scalability, configurability, and compliance recognition. As a result, EIP-4337, EIP-7701, and EIP-8141Base are more focused on these aspects and are shifting towards EIP-8130. Chiang noted that this means the wallet experience will become further fragmented, and in the future, it may be necessary for wallets and application layers to bridge the differences in transaction types between different chains.
