BIS Research Finds a 6-Fold Gap in Bitcoin Activity Measurement
2026-09-16 13:38:00
CoinMeta data: The Bank for International Settlements ( BIS ) pointed out in its latest research that the on-chain value of Bitcoin transactions does not always reflect the actual amount transferred. The study indicates that the richness of on-chain data can lead to an illusion of statistical accuracy. Researchers analyzed Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Polkadot and found that different measurement methods can result in up to six times differences in the valuation of Bitcoin transactions. The research from BIS emphasizes that there are significant discrepancies between on-chain data and economic activity, and investors should be cautious when using transaction volume indicators, ensuring they understand the assumptions and technical classifications behind the data.
